New to the forum and going through IUI

Hi there, my name is Jen - I live in St. Pete, FL. I just joined this forum last night, after recieving the results that my hubby is definitely a CF carrier, as am I.

I found this out when I was preggo w/ my daughter, who does not have CF.

We want to have one more child, but don't think we should just get pregnant knowing (tested 2x each)we both have the gene.

Can you help me find more info about the IVF procedures and if there is any financial assistance re: this?

I will be 35 this year and our daughter is 3...I would really like to see if this an option...or, should count our blessings and leave it alone.

I'm not sure of the situation in the US, but here in the UK there are a couple of hospitals that offer a procedure called PGD to couples who both carry the CF gene, but want to avoid having a baby with CF. I believe its similar to regular IVF but the embryos are screened or tested for CF before they are placed in the mother's womb so that no CF embryos are used.

I would suggest Googling "PGD Cystic Fibrosis" to find out more information on this. Alternatively I know of some parents who are both CF carriers who have got pregnant and then had the baby tested at 12 weeks gestation (a CVS test) so that they have the option to terminate any CF pregnancy. However obviously this is a very difficult issue and many people would not feel comfortable taking this route.
