just curious to see how the whole vest thing works. i got my vest delivered today. do you think someone will be calling me monday or coming out to show me how to use it?
the hill rom lady said they would have an rt or home health nurse come out and show me. also about the hours, it keeps up with your hours? they said something about insurance goes by the usage of the vest and how the doctor says to use it.
i just opened the box but didn't take it out. i'm curious to try it on and get things going.
did anyone see an increase in fev1 after the first use of the vest?

Congratulations on getting a vest! Sorry to hear it's a HillRom though. There's a little counter (like an odometer) built into the bottom of the thing that ticks off how many hours you use it. If you dont' use it enough to justify it in the eyes of your insurance company, they'll take it back, which makes sense. If I were loaning a $15,000 piece of equipment to someone, I'd want to be sure as heck that they're utilizing it to the maximum benefit.

You won't see an increase in FEV1 right away, because the mere action of using the vest will initially be a shock to your system. It might take a few months of getting the hang of using it to really see the most benefit. You'll get the most benefit from it if you do your vesting at the same time as a neb treatment. "Dry vesting" doesn't produce nearly the same results.

The technician (or nurse or whomever) will show you how to adjust the frequency and pressure to increase at the right intervals. Basically what you do is ramp up both of them over the course of a 30 minute or 40 minute time frame.

Good luck! I hope it goes well for you.

When I got mine last summer they said someone would call me but I ended up just starting to use it on my own since my CF clinic trained me. I'd call them soon if you don't hear from them and get things going. When you take it out to set it up (very easy to do), wipe down the hose with alcohol where it connects to the unit and give it a little twist to tighten it in there. They tend to pop out so that is a little trick to keep them in. You might want to inquire about how it is paid for by insurance too. I just received a bill and found out that my insurance pays for it over 10 months, not in a lump sum. The cost of the unit is $16,425.

Yea! Congrats! We got our vest a month ago now. We got the respitech one. Took the people about a week to call us and talk to us about the settings but by then we knew most everything about it and made 3 programed cycles on our own. Ours had a quickstart button that as was already said, ramped up. We like our custom modes better. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I am so excited for you. I can seriously say that our little one gets more percussion with the vest than our poor hands could deliver before we got it. ha ha. Keep us posted on how its working for you or if you have any specific questions about it. I hope they call you soon!
