My son was diagnosed in June at age 12, is now 13.
Best advice I got from another CFer family member was not to lecture and hover, but encourage. That's hard not to do when it's new. You want to make sure they're getting all the treatment they need, that they feel like they're not alone, that you're there if they want to talk out their feelings. Well, the problem with that is that teenagers MOST of the time don't WANT to talk out their feelings, they just want to sort it out in their own heads in their own rooms. That doesn't change because they have CF. Boys breaking up with girls (or reversed) for non-reasons doesn't change because they have CF. Heartbreak will happen, and it gives us the strength and character we need to become adults. Let them be their age.
Great comments from the teenage girl singer on the "Breathe" video. You have to watch it (click on the banner at the top of the page). Very insightful for a young girl.
Good luck! She's a lovely girl and she will do great!
