Only 4 hours to decide...

I just wanted to add that strep throat is only contagious by saliva, meaning they need to kiss, share a drink or food, or SC needs to cough right at your child. My son(no CF) is 9 and has had strep throat 2 times without Maggie getting it. Also, once she's on antibiotics, which she should be if she truly has strep she is no longer contagious after being on the antibiotics for 48 hours. So, I guess strep is ok but like Momma first posted the SC should actually see a doctor cause obviously you need to treat strep. If she's sick with a virus and has a temperature, maybe it is in the best interest of the SC not to travel and reschedule so she feels better and can enjoy her visit. If it's just a cold , I say let her visit.

I agree with the person who said she should go to the doctors before getting on the plane.

Other than that, my (non-CF) daughter gets strep throat about three times a year. My (CF) step-daughter's doctor has never made a big deal about it. My daughter gets on her antibiotics and avoids Marissa for 24 hours. Marissa has NEVER caught strep throat from her, neither has anyone else in the house. (I do kiss her while she has it, wouldn't suggest doing that, but my daughter gets her feelings hurt very easy, strep throat being so easy to cure I've always figured the risk wasn't worth her crying in bed). I would keep the other child out of the other children's faces, and no sharing any food/drinks. Wash hands and use sanitizer regularly.

I personally would not fear strep throat, but I do feel it is wrong for the child not to be seen before getting on the plane. JMHO

Thanks y'all. SC's mom took her to the Dr and they are 90% sure it is viral and are waiting to see if it is strep (apparently her dr's office doesn't use the rapid strep tests). She's been sick since Saturday we just learned and is still running a temp around 101-102 for the past three days.

She isn't allowed to travel alone. DH will have to fly up and get her. Then a 2 hour drive back. I don't want him to go without seeing her. We looked at changing the flights to later in the week (maybe after Easter, etc.) but it will cost $973 to change the flights. I just hope he can be as nurturing as her mother. I'll be at work.

Maybe I'm just being difficult. I just know that if it is viral and it turns into RSV with Abby, I am going to be very upset because HE had options that didn't include putting Abby in the car with a sick 8-9 year old for 5 hours on Friday.

I don't know. Thanks all for the perspectives. Lots of food for thought. I have about 50 minutes to finish pleading my case for a change in plans, not for her NOT to come, but to change the long family car ride until she feels better.

I missed the fact that the baby would be in the car all that time. Don't you have a friend/family member that can care of your daughter while he goes gets her?
