HELP ME!!

Ok I'd almost forgotten how painful these are. Does anyone else get bowel blockages? What do you do? I got my husband to get me some Golytely and I've drank about four glasses now. Earlier on the pain was so bad I HAD to take a dilaudid, but now I'm worried that that's going to make it worse. It's been 24 hours, I've had these episodes last three days before and I sure hope it resolves soon!

Can anyone console or sympathize or offer advice? :S

I definitely sympathize with you, I get obstructions often, and have had a few surgeries as well. I usually use Miralax myself. I just take as much as I can physically tolerate, as often as I can. Usually, (depending if I'm at the throwing up point or not) I will choke down like 4 glasses worth, all double dose mixed, then drink a double dose every half hour to hour until it clears up. It still takes a couple days, but the extra pain is worth it if it keeps me out of the hospital. Of course, if you are to the point that you literally throw up anything you swallow, then I would only do a dose at a time, and if it doesn't clear up in a day, go in to the hospital. I am a total procrastinator though, so my advice may be bad...I almost had my small intestine rupture once cause I waited too long.... <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">(

I had one when I was 2 that I needed surgery for and when they opened me up, everything resolved on it's own so they just removed my appendix so I wouldn't have problems with it in the future.

I was then in the hospital for my 7th b-day with another obstruction and I don't remember what they did, but they did not do surgery.

I had my colon removed last year due to c-diff and when everything was completely finished and I got my colostomy bag off in March (this year), I got an obstruction a week later even with using Miralax. I only had the stomach ache for about a day and then it really went downhill. I went to the ER, began bringing stuff up, and they seriously thought that I was going to need surgery and since I had the transplants, no one but my transplant clinic will touch me for surgery, so they scheduled me to take the 6 hour ambulance ride out to Cleveland. Anyway, my hospital at home put an IV in, did CT scans, ran fluids into me, and gave me pain meds through the IV. As I was there in the ER, the obstruction relieved itself about 5 hours later. The fluids are what made things move!!

I was still sent to Cleveland though in case it was something wrong with the closing of the ileostomy that I had a week prior. I haven't had any problems since and when I start to get the slightest pain in my stomach now, I take Miralax immediately! I don't take it every day because with not having a large intestine, my stools are not very formed at all and things already move through too quickly. (Sorry if that's TMI)
