PGD and Insurance

I am going through PGD now and the majority of it is not covered by insurance. However, we are trying to ge the biopsy portion covered (it is a long story, but in the end I think we will). We struggled for a long time about whether to do it or not, and in the end I think there is no right or wrong answer. We decided to do it for some piece of mind, but it is not 100%.
Please let me know if you have any questions

LRL - I would like to know more about it. Did you interview many doctors before proceeding? If you don't mind me asking, what can we expect to spend approximately?

soofeesmom-
We are working with a genetic counselor through our IVF center and he was able to do a lot of research/interviewing for us. Additonally, I researched the place and spoke with their genetic counselor.

In regards to price, it is costing us $3500 for the actually PGD (probe they are making) and another $1500 for the biopsy fee (we are hoping to get this back through insurance). Additionally, we are flying their embryologist from Chicago to Connecticut and he is staying for four days, which is costing an additonal $2000.

Please understand this is not typical. It should cost you less. However, we are looking for 5T, not a CF gene, which complicates things. I would expect to pay between $4-5000.

I hope this helps

We just had a healthy non CF free baby after doing IVF/PGD. Ours was not covered by insurance although we appealed it many times. Makes no sense since our two year old with CF has already cost them a fortune.

We used Genesis Genetics in Michigan with DR Hughes and an IVF clinic in NJ. It was difficult at times and expensive but well worth it. It is not 100% which had us worried at times but we felt we did everything possible to ensure this baby's healthy and it worked for us. We had an easier probe- Double Delta. Best of luck.
