That makes a lot of sense to me now. As far as I know, the only "fertility" related problem that CF causes in men is the CBAVD. I've never read anything about antibodies causing reproductive problems in relation to someone having CF, or even being a carrier. I was thinking that he didn't have a vas deferens. but clearly he does <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Flopsy- did you do the transfer and are pregnant now? What stage are you in?
We also loved working with Dr Hughes lab and we now have a beautiful, healthy baby boy. Are you having an amnio?

Megan, no we haven't done the transfer yet. We actually did something rather new....we did a blastocyst biopsy. Dr. Hughes and my RE both say it is the way to go. Instead of taking only one cell from an 8-cell 3-day embryo, they can take 6 to 10 cells from a roughly 100 cell 5-day blast. the thought is that this is less intrusive and less damaging to the embryo, PLUS the lab then has a lot more DNA to work with so there is less chance of an inconclusive result or a false negative (which unfortunately is always a possibility, even Dr. Hughes has had some).

The negative side and the reason most people don't already elect to do it, is that first you have to have some embryos make it to blast, and second, you have to freeze all of the embryos and do a transfer later because the transfer would usually occur on day 5 and in this case you have to wait about 48 hours for results (overnight for shipping then 24 hours for the actual test).

So, we got our results last week, but we're not doing our transfer until August 16th. I have to go through suppression again, then use estrogen patches to thicken my lining and then do the transfer and of course PIO....I should have some pregnancy test results around August 25th if all goes as planned.

We haven't decided between an amnio or a CVS, but we're definitely doing one or the other? Did you choose to do a pre-natal test? Congratulations on your healthy boy! That is so exciting!

By the way- Gavin is also the product of a frozen cycle. We did three rounds and he was from the first. Best of luck. If we ever do this again- I think I will ask more about the Day 5.

WHat is PGD? I am not sure on this one. Me and my wife are currently going through IVF (see other post) Waiting on pregnancy test. We are lucky enough my Wife's great insuracne blue cross and blue shield covers 90% of all ivf procedure and even 90% of my mesa precedure they covered everything right down to the sperm analysis and even all the medication. We can have 4 complete IVF cycles in a lifetime. I know we were very lucky unfortunetly our insurance changes in November so here's to hoping!!!
