Playing sports with CF

I do let them know that she has CF but I DO NOT tell them all of her meds because as you said--those forms are pretty much public knowledge. I don't leave my child either but you never know what is going to happen so I would like them to atleast know that she does have something wrong with her lungs so they can look for anything specific

I don't ever put it on the forms and only tell the coach if I think CF is affecting Connor's ability to play. So far Connor has not played a sport where CF has interfered. I will let his soccer coach know that he has a feeding tube so they react properly to a soccer ball to the stomach, but I left the form blank on the medical question.

My parents never wrote down any of my drugs, and it wasn't until I was running competitively that they told my coach - which made me very upset me at the time. They didn't even tell the school nurse, because they wanted me to be able to carry my own pancreas capsules to lunch, which the school would probably would have had a problem with.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend the same approach for all other CFers... but, if your kid is mild, and otherwise healthy, and a parent is always going to be there, I don't see why you would want to list them all, or make a big deal of his CF if there was a chance it would affect his playing time, how he was picked for the team, how he was viewed by the coaches (who probably know nothing about CF), etc.

This was me, too. I remember finally telling my swimming coach I had Cf one day when I was sick and coughing ay practice and she got made at me for being on the wall and not swimming - this was my sophomore year of high school, btw!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. If your child gets hurt, especially at an away game, do you know which hospital they would be taken to? There is no guarentee where they would go, and most schools use a specific hospital, whichever one is closest.

Also, if you didn't want to list all the meds I can understand that, but albuterol needs to be on there for sure, and the fact that the child has a lung condition does too. There are a lot of sports where getting hit in the chest is common (football for one) and this can cause serious injuries. The fact that the child has CF could definately change the treatment for a chest injury.
