Please help. MRSA in my 4 year old

I don't think you are required to let the school nurse know. I let them know just because in the event anything would happen that would cause them to have to send Riss to the hospital, I think they should be aware. They don't "quarantine" her or anything from the other kids in any other way.

I do know that if someone is diagnosed with something that has to be reported, the CDC lets the school know. (A friend got ratted on for head lice last year, but the CDC has never let them know Riss has MRSA).

I wouldn't blame yourself or even try to dwell on how or why it happened. I don't think we can prevent everything, just do the best we can.

Like I said, several kids in my daughter's school are MRSA carriers, and no one even knew, until suspicious sores started popping up on other family members. Apparently they carry it in their noses and it hadn't caused them any problems.

Hi Megan,

From what I know, MRSA is not that common, but becoming more common in CFers. I think I read somewhere that about 17% of CFers are MRSA +. I have also read that it results in lower FEV1, more frequent infections, more antibiotics. Brea's Docs have only treated her with Bactrim when there is a flare-up which has been about every 2 months. I ventured out on my own and stumbled across a thread here about the product Allicin. It is a natural derivative of garlic which is a natural antibiotic. This product is manufactured only in the UK, but there is a distributor in Illinois. I took my chance after reading nothing but good about it. Breanna has been taking it for about 3 1/2 weeks, (6) caps per day. After about the 2nd week she has cleared up drastically, no more oysters, no more dry cough at night, her mucus color is very light in color to clear, which has never been. We have not been back to the clinic since using this so I don't know what her FEV1 is, her baseline is about 84%. I can only measure her peak flow which her baseline is about 300, when she is sick it drops to about 200. This morning her peak flow was 350 and has been between 325-400 since giving her the Allicin. I know the peak flow isn't the best way to track things, but it has some significance. Below is the link to the manufacturer if you want to check it out. The cost is about $325. for a month supply and that is for 3 months, then just a maintenance dose of (2) caps a day so about $105. a month and insurance of course does not pay for it since it is a natural remedy. I know it's expensive, but I just want it gone and I think it is working. Brea was diagnosed only a year ago and has been in the hospital 3 times and on antibiotics about every month in between. So far she has been without antibiotics since Aug 10th and continues every day to look and feel better. Brea goes back in Nov to clinic so I can't wait to see the outcome!

Try and google it also, there are alot of topics on it.

I will let you know the outcome of the clinic visit.

Take care,

WOW! You really are getting some super results! I can't wait to see how Marissa responds. Her appt is on 10/29. Her peak flow would normally be 280-320, but has not went past 260 since February. We do peak flow before meds and after meds morning and night. She used to fluctuate a lot more than she is now (280 before meds and 300-320 after meds, now it is 240 before meds and 250-260, more often than not 250, after meds). I would love to see a 350!
