Hi Emily,

The policy really is your own choice! But keep in mind that when you are immune compromised it takes longer to get over simple things...so what may last Mike a week to get over, may (and I did say may) land you in hospital fighting for your life....

Pre tx you could get a cold or get really sick and 9 times out of 10 it wouldnt take your life (it can take your life too, I'm not saying you can get sick pre tx and it not kill you) but after tx things do change in regards to what price you pay when get sick

Sick is sick whether it is your mother your father, your partner or your child.

When my partner is sick I move into another room, I dont think its overkill, its just taking reasonable steps to avoid landing myself in hospital....

When it comes to flu's and colds and transmissible snottiness it always seems to play tit for tac and bounce back and forth unless one of you takes the time to get over it completely....just seems to be the nature of infectious infections hehe

So Policies are there, but as you know from having CF we very rarely listen to what we are told, but we always seem to learn from our consequences

Emily, just noticed your quote:

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not." ~ Unknown
</end quote></div>

Kurt Cobain said that. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Just a question though....what was funny about what Freak said?

Pete.

After tx, it is unwise to eat uncooked raw fish (sushi etc), uncooked eggs. You have to be careful about eating salads in restaurants incase the water the salad was washed in isn't clean. (Sometimes water in restaurants lies stale for a while.)

Kissing and all that is fine, as long as the person you're kissing hasn't got a cold or flu, but as someone said, its commonsense.

As for do's, you can do pretty much anything you set your heart to...

The guidelines vary by center, and the time.

Yes the rules have changed at many centers. The rules when I was listed for lungs, was vastly different when I got lungs. I recall that before I got listed in 1995 that those with Diabetes were not tx'd. That is now a long gone rule. There were foods I could not eat for several months, those are gone now.

Like many have said - common sense is the key rule. Don't do anything that puts you at great risk, you will regret it many times. KISS all you want with your hunny, if they are sick, think twice. They get a cold, they are over it fast, you get a cold, you might get an infection that is hard to fight since you are immune suppressed.

The foods that I am still not allowed to eat are raw fish, raw meat, grapefruit.

It truly is not hard to adjust to post tx life.... it really isn't. I think when you read accounts of post tx life if sounds horrific, but it really isn't and it is vastly different than CF and what freedom you have. I wear a mask when appropriate, I wash my hands when appropriate.

Good luck
Joanne

Does anyone here who is post tx have kids? I ask because they are pretty hard to avoid when they are sick....

Hopefully ,my tx point won't come until they are much older - but who knows...

I have two kids. When they get sick, I try to stay away from them, but it's hard. My wife keeps up with laundry and makes sure kitchen/bathroom is kept clean as that is were "bugs" grow best.

In March, I will be celebrating another transplant anniversary. My bi-lateral lung txp. was in 1992.
