My son started preschool this year at 3 years old. He did get more colds this year than previous years, but they were just colds, and I don't really think he got any more colds than the other kids in his class. He is going to get exposed to them eventually anyways, whether its when he starts kindergarten or now.

Its not the regular germs at school or the playground I worry about, its the "CF germs" at the CF center or hospital

When my DD was 8 months old she started going to a mother's day out program one day a week for 3 hours. Then I started working for the same mother's day out program 3 weeks after she started. I worked there for about 6 months. I found another job and I had to put her in Day Care 5 days a week, from 7:30 to 5:30. She was a very healthy baby except for pooping and eating A LOT. we didn't know she had CF. She still goes to DayCare 5 Days a week. We are blessed she rarely gets sick except the sinus infections and GI issues.

We waited until our daughter was 4 to send her, there is no preschool until age 3 here, so she just skipped the 3-4 class (2 days/week total of 5 hours) and went to the 4-5 class (3 days/week total of 7.5 hours). Before she started preschool we were involved in many activities together, that worked best for us so that I could keep an eye on what she was exposed to (there were a couple of times that we left an activity because a child with a severe cough came, etc). I think this helped expose her to germs slowly because she got a cold here and there but has never had a major sick period of time. It was also just plain fun for me to get to watch her have fun and learn and of course I got to meet lots of moms who I am friends with now. We did classes at our library, through the parks & rec, through the YMCA, creative arts coucil, MOPS, etc. There were some weeks that we were out of the house for an activity almost everyday. My daughter is a social butterfly and loved it. I treasure those memories because she is in all day kindergarten now.
