Private Topic Lists

So...I'm trying to understand here (see the steam rolling?)

If I start a topic labeled Papa Don't Preach, or something similar to that, would you then send me a list of like minded people for me to add (or not) as Selected Users for my topic??

Lynda, I'm not sure I am understanding your questions. All I am doing is compiling lists of users. The idea is when you want to create a private topic you can use the lists to know who to include. You said (I think it was you) that there is a great number of screen names on this site, many you've never heard of before. A list would enable you to include members you don't know, but share a common interest.

If a new user comes to this site looking for support on a controversial issue, I might mention the lists to them, but other than that my role is rather passive.

Also, some of the suggestions you gave (in the private messages) were good suggestions, but they are beyond my control. Just think of me as a guy writing down names and only that. If you want me to write down or erase a name, I'm your guy, but the rest of the process is in the hands of others.

Sorry I'm so confused, Mockingbird...

So, is this NOT what I suggested in my earlier post? Regarding having set "rules" and "code of ethics" to be used in these topics vs. sarcasm and negativity active in a debate?

I'm so confused.

So, you're just compiling names of people who may have shared interests in subjects? And, they would be the only ones to see such subjects? So, really its no different than the non-private topics, since on those too you can pick and choose what you see and respond to, right? Or, are you not inviting certain people to the topics? I'm sorry. I just can't get my mind around this idea and what it would serve. I'd like to understand it though. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Ladybug, the idea behing the support lists is exactly what you are talking about. However, I would not be the one overseeing the "rules" or "code of ethics" but that would be more up to the people involved in the particular topic.
