Marahsyn was started on Pulmozyme at 4 months old and we have not had any problems with it at all. She takes Xopenex, then Pulmozyme then Pulmocort. She never really coughs and is really healthy (50% for wght at 14 mths old).

Hope this helps and good luck

My little one was not placed on the pulmozyne right when the dx of CF was given. She started on it about 3 months ago & it has worked really well for her in regards to having a productive cough but her FEV1 is way of 40% also. She was started on it because she was congested & couldn't get anything up. I also agree with theswallowing thing-I have to remind Holly every day to spit it out instead of swallowing it.

I know there is a lot of different info out there on Pulmozyme. My son Eli started on it at about 15 months. When he was 20 months he had a bronch and his lungs looked really good, no inflammation. I would have thought that if the Pulmozyme was doing any damage we would have seen it then. During the bronch the Dr. did say that Eli had a lot of tiny, spaghetti like plugs in the smallest regions of his lungs. We actually decided to start him on Pulmozyme 2xs a day in hopes that it might help reduce those plugs. Eli shows no discomfort from the drug. I 'think' that it works well for him although there is no way to know exactly how much, it's just a feeling that I have.

Good like making the decision, it's so hard!
