Question for CF moms

If you have a child and have them in daycare, do you find that they bring home more germs...thus making you have more frequent exacerbations?

My husband and I are in the process of deciding whether or not to have a child and he is afraid that since kids get sick all the time, it will cause my health to deteriorate at a faster rate. I'm 27 now and definitely seeing changes in my CF. I'm building up resistance to some meds and it's become harder to bounce back when I do get sick. So I'm looking learn from the experiences of moms with CF.

my daughter just started daycare on the 2nd. about three out of the eight babies in her class have runny noses. and i just got off a round of iv's.

in three months when i get married i am most likely pulling her out, because i will be a stay at home mom. i would be one right now, but it is imperative that i have health insurance. once dustin and i are married i will be on his.

right after i pick morgan up i put on hand sanitizer then i whip her hands with a anti-bacterial wipe. then i bath her every night so hopefully that eliminates some germs.

i'll let you know how it goes.

My son isn't in daycare (I am a SAHM) but I can tell you that almost every cold he's gotten, he's given to me. Not always, but probably about 75% of the time. It is one of the reasons he isn't in any type of preschool yet. I do plan to place him in preschool either in the summer or fall though since I'm expecting #2 and he has expressed a desire to go to school. I have also considered homeschooling him (well both my kids) due to the illness factor but I'm not completely set on that yet. One thing that is nice - I've never gotten seriously ill from any of his colds.

No sooner do we start feeling better, then one of the kids starts with a cough and it seems to start all over again. I don't remember ever getting this sick before, and I'm not even the one with CF!

It's a tough decision to make, but you have to consider quality over quantity (at least, this is how we made our "parenting" decision). Would you rather live to 80 and have an ok life (which could mean different things for different people, marriage, kids, college, dream job...) or live to 50 and have an amazing and fulfilling life (again, differen for different people).

No sooner do we start feeling better, then one of the kids starts with a cough and it seems to start all over again. I don't remember ever getting this sick before, and I'm not even the one with CF!

It's a tough decision to make, but you have to consider quality over quantity (at least, this is how we made our "parenting" decision). Would you rather live to 80 and have an ok life (which could mean different things for different people, marriage, kids, college, dream job...) or live to 50 and have an amazing and fulfilling life (again, differen for different people).
