When referring to one's own FEV1 we are referring to "actual." "Predicted" is what is expected of someone (without cf) in the general population with your sex, age and height.

Edited to add: age

mines around 76 and i put it all down to hard work,3 sessions a day around 16 minutes each, lots of exercise(swimming) 5 days a week and plenty of water 2 litres a day.I have always produced a lot and have worked bloude hard at keeping on top of this shitty illness.I know for a fact if i ever let up i will slip and this happended in april of this year.I had enough of the intense regime i have known all my life for dealing with this condition and gave up and done nothing for 3 months. My fev1 dropped from 83 to 54 and the docs told me it was down to a bad infection that i had developed for not doing my phsyio. In the 3 months of doing nothing i lost 7% baseline, this illness is tough very tough to deal with and it is draining but fortuantly i now decide to fight and havent given up life is too short

question....as far as the FEV1's are concerned. Are you guys speaking of the "actual" or "predicted" Thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"></end quote></div>

It's actually the "percent of predicted" that we are using, (i.e. if my FEV1 is 40%, then I can blow out 40% of the amount that is predicted for someone my weight/age to be able to blow out.) Hope that makes sense<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

Hi Mary,

I'm no longer at 70 or over... but I was for a bit in college! At that time I was on IV antibiotics 2 - 3 times per year. I was just encountering too many illnesses living away at school... plus I'd probably miss a treatment here and there, too. Now that I'm working full time, my FEV1 is lower, but I'm on IV antibiotics only once a year or once every other year. I'd attribute this to my total unwavering compliance and limited exposure to 'germy' places!!

Point is, I don't think FEV1 and number of infections always coincides...

Hope this helps!...
