My granddaughter was just born on 05/18/08. She did have a meconium illeus plug. Her bowel was twisted and part of it had died and just left scar tissue. She has surgery on 05/19/08 and is doing well, she does have a bag for now but they say that there is enough bowel to be reconnected. It is scarey! And the surgeon said she will probably stay in the NICU for around 3 months. She looks great and is doing well. My daughter has twin girls who are 4yrs old and they are alittle confused. They were born early also and we do have pictures of them in the NICU so it did help to show them those so they can try to understand what is happening to their baby sister. The hard part is my daughter does not want to leave the baby just yet. But Nana and Pappy are helping out. Congrats on the birth of your little one. Just reading and talking to people here has helped our whole family. WE ARE NORMAL!! We take great comfort in the fact that others have been where we are and have seen the light at the end of the tunnel. Life will go on........And take comfort in your family and friends

We went through the same thing with our now 8 year old son Mason. I was so devasted that he was born with CF but also that he had to have the surgery for MI. Things do get better believe me. Everytime I reply to one of these I realized that it has been 8 years since we went through the same thing and it hits me that we were so worried at that time. We have a seocnd child who is 3 that didn't have MI but does have CF. If you have questions feel free to ask me or any of the others on here who have gone through this. Good luck
