Serevent or Advair

It is a risk if you start taking it for the first time during an acute attack. It is also a risk if you take it more frequently than prescribed, (q12h). There are no other serious health risks with taking Advair.

If you look in the advair box, you will find a big sheet of paper with all the statistics for the warning.

I included some scans below. They don't conatin any different information than what was said here, but I thought you might want to see it for yourself. Basically, an average of 8 people died out of 10,000.

One other thing, is your son on the discus or the inhaler? The inhaler works much, much better than the discus.

<b>Edit:</b> On the larger picture, you have to expand it to read it properly. (hold the mouse on the picture, then wait for the little box in the lower-right corner to appear and click on it)

I didn't know advair came in an inhaler. Off to google it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> !

Found it! Cool! I'll have to ask my doctor about the difference:

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Advair HFA is an aerosol form of fluticasone and salmeterol that comes in a canister that is used with an actuator inhaler device. Use only the inhaler device provided with Advair HFA. This device is not to be used with a spacer.

Shake the Advair HFA inhaler for at least 5 seconds before each spray. When using the inhaler device for the first time, prime it by spraying 4 test sprays into the air, away from your face. Shake the canister for 5 seconds before each spray. Also prime the inhaler if you have not used it in more than 4 weeks, or if you have dropped the canister.
Keep track of the number of sprays you have used and throw away the Advair HFA canister after 120 sprays, even if it feels like there is still medicine in it.

To reduce the chance of developing a yeast infection in your mouth, rinse with water after using Advair. Do not swallow. </end quote></div>

Hey thanks everyone !!!

I didn't know it came in anything different than the disc either. My daughter didn't like the powder so she uses Flovent.

My son is having some mouth pain - he says it feels like a sore throat on the roof of his mouth. I cannot see a sore like he cut it with a chip or anything, rinsing with hydrogen peroxide and using baking soda do not seem to help. I'm not sure what the problem is, but it did start the next day after starting the Advair. The doctor said he really doubts that it is the Advair but to go ahead and stop it for a few days to see if his mouth will heal up.

I read through the side effects and see "dental pain" but not sure if this is what they meant. He also said a couple of teeth feel weird too.
