Severe pacreatic insufficiency

hey there...

I was diagnosed at birth because of meconium ileus. I have both DDF508 mutation. Needless to say...I have probably what you would consider "severe" pancreatic insufficiency. Growing up, I always took enzymes. As a baby it was in ice cream or apple sauce...now it's with anything if something at all (I usually just swallow with nothing). It took me a while to get into the habit of having to go to the school nurse for pills after lunch (because no one else in my class had to do that). I had a lot of belly aches when I was 5-8 yrs old because of this. I got into the habit of remembering my pills soon after that (no thanks to school nurses ) and life went on. It was really no big deal anymore to take pills after I ate as it's just something I have to do. I did eventually become diabetic because of it, but again, I got used to it, and it's just one thing more to do. You brush your teeth, comb your hair, take your pills and use your insulin. I now have an insulin pump which has been a God-send. I am 23yrs old (almost ) and doing just fine. If you have any more questions or anything...PM me...I'm always around. Hope all goes well for you and Ellie.

When I was younger, I had major digestion problems, but it seems that as I got older and had a major change in diet, my pancreatic issues had decreased!

I'm now 43, and can easily gain weight without enzymes (though I do get those bad days sometimes).

I currently don't have CFRD, nor any symptoms, though I do seem to have immediate drops in sugar levels, sometimes.

However, I keep tabs on symptoms, since diabetes runs in the family as well as CFRD being a result of CF.

My daughter is severely pancreatic insufficient her ultrasound showed that her pancreas is pretty bad. She is borderline diabetes atm.

She gets dizzy spells every so often I don't know if its low blood sugar or not.
