Severe stomach pain

So....here's the lastest. We talked to another slew of docs today. They brought in the liver transplants docs because if something were to go wrong with the procedure, those surgeons would be the ones that would have to come in to save the day, so they wanted to get them involved at the initial decision-making stage.

The conclusion is to wait a bit longer to see if the pain goes away on its own, before doing anything. Both the partial splenic embolization and a full splenetomy are risky, so they just want to be conservative.

So...the waiting continues. The pain has felt a bit better for him, but they also have him really drugged up (50 mg of demerol q 3 hour), so I don't know.

Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers!

Just wanted you to know I'm thinking about you both. Sounds like they are being cautious, which is generally good with surgery. I'll be pulling for the pain to lessen by the hour so that no surgery will be needed right now. I'm sorry that you are both under this stress. My best wishes.

Gessner came home from the hospital today and is feeling somewhat better--still in pain, but it seems to be decreasing. The doctors now think that he had an infarction (sorry--don't know how to spell it) and that basically a piece of his spleen died off. This may actually be good because it means that he is not guaranteed to have a recurrance (whereas if it was just being caused by the size of the spleen and the pressure, then recurrance would be more likely) and also it might decrease the size of his spleen a little bit. So, keep your fingers crossed!

We have had quite a roller-coaster year so far, so I am hoping that things will calm down for awhile.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers!

Hey Lisa,
Glad to hear the Gessner is home. What an ordeal. How scary, I hope things continue to get better for him. Take care of yourself too.
Hang in there, I'm praying for the both of you!
