She sounds like she is drowning!

You'll be just fine. In a matter of just a couple of days she will feel so much better. You will hear a difference in her cough soon. It's tough the first time, and I imagine even more so when they are so little and can't verbalize much. You'll be able to stay with her and take her to the play room and she'll adjust to it with Mom by her side. Take her favorite dolly or stuffy, pillow and blankey. She'll be all well and no worries in time for the holidays. Keep your chin up, it'll be OK.

Alyssa had her first hospitalization at 14 months, so I totally get how hard this is for you. It was emotionally tough as it marked the first time of many hospitalizations, and it was physically tough because its hard to keep a toddler like that entertained in a 12 x 12 room, be awake around the clock for her, hold her down for treatments and IVs....it hard, but you will do it!! Use the resources you have in your hospital. Child life will find you toys and play things that are age appropriate and can get you respite care while she's sleeping so you can go take a shower or get something to eat. I'm soooo sorry she's in-patient, but I do think you will be relieved to hear a difference in her breathing. (((HUGS))) You CAN do this!!!!

Hi there

I know this is a very difficult time for you. I remember Cole was in the hospital with pneumonia over Christmas when he was a year and a half. If it is any consolation, it was much harder on my husband and I (and our two girls) than it was on him. He was pretty ill and slept most of the time. When he was awake he didn't have much energy and was usually content to watch movies and cuddle Mommy. The hardest thing was, of course, not being able to leave his side. It's hard to shower, eat, etc!

The good news is she'll feel better soon - so you will too! Remember to pack stuff for YOU to do too. She'll probably sleep more than usual, so bring books, magazines, etc.

And remember, I'm in London too! If you need anything, let me know.
