Should I have more children?

I found out I was a carrier w/my first son, and had frankly not heard much about the disease. My husband was tested and we found out he was a carrier as well. We went into total freak out mode. I had CVS testing done to see if the baby had it, and he did not!! He is a carrier. We were so relieved. We decided that we had dodged a bullet and that we were going to have only one child.

On the day that Brandon turned 11 months old, I found out I was pregnant. I had been using birth control and taking every precaution. I was devastated. I didn't tell my husband for over a week, and really struggled with what do to and how I felt about it. I finally told him and we decided to have the baby. We did CVS testing as soon as I was able, and the baby will be born with CF.

I am due the end of August, and every minute of this pregnancy has been stressful. I am anxious and nervous and scared. I've educated myself on everything I can, and we're hoping for the best. The baby is good so far, no intestinal blockages etc.

My little boy, who is 18 months old now is such a joy, and I can't imagine this one being any different, despite the CF. We're going to make the best of it and that's all you can do.

I know you're in a different situation due to the fact you have a CF'r already. The chances are good the baby won't have CF. It's just something you really need to think about. I think everyone on this site, whether they have 1 or 2 or more children w/CF treasure their children and are thankful everyday for them.

Good luck to you and whatever you decide to do.

I think it's wonderful that you have already started researching and looking for support. I didn't know until my daughter was about 5 1/2 months old that she had CF so I think it's great for you to know now and to be prepared (or as prepared as you can be). Wishing your family lots of luck. We are all here if you need help, have ?s, or just need to vent...<img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">
