Side Effect from Sinus Surgery??

Wow I'm going in for sinus surgery tomorrow so reading all this is helpul..just so you know, what you described about dry mouth, taste, etc. I am already experiencing daily, have been for years. So it's a CF problem with or without surgery. Tomorrow is actually my first sinus surgery. Hope that it clears up for you soon!

I have had 3 polypectomies. I have not had a sense of smelll for years. I can smell something that is really really strong like alcohol or bleach but not much else. For example, if we were to have a gas leak, I would not have a clue. I am sure my sense of taste is affected by that. Guess that's why my cooking sucks<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

Our son almost 13 will have his first sinus surgery next Friday. We don't know what to expect at all. How painful it is? What kind of recouperation? Any suggestions? God's blessing's, Judy

I remember the apprehension the first time, but afterward I was thinking "Is that all?". Maybe some have had more pain than me, but I had <i>very little</i> pain. Has he had many Iv's put in? That's always an anxiety if you aren't used to them.

Once the IV is in, you go to sleep and wake up and it's over. Some drs. leave packing in, some don't. Mine used a packing this last time that disintegrated on it's own, which was nice. You aren't allowed to blow your nose or irrigate for a few weeks, which was the worst part for me. They started having me use Ocean Nasal Spray w/in hours after the surgery and that's important to keep it moist so things can drain, but I still felt stuffy and wanted to blow my nose and clear it so badly, but couldn't.

I lost my sense of taste and smell and had a terribly try "cotton mouth" for a few weeks afterward, but now it's more back to normal.

Maybe someone else will be able to add more info, but for me it wasn't a big deal. (I've had 3)
