Thanks Carrie, I think I will try those plugins. I am so concerned about using anything that would affect her lungs. We are careful not to use anything with a scent on her or us. I maybe over protecting her but I just want to make sure whatever I do doesn't affect her.

Alright i just want to start by saying Hello to everyone I just joined on here for this question alone. I am a almost 24 year old female living daily with cystic fibrosis but there is a lot about this blog i am not understanding.. for starters what the deal with spraying air freshener?

I use candles in my small small room daily.. I wear perfume daily i use aerosol air freshener daily. I even go to bars and am around smoke most days i have never ever ever heard of ANYONE not using these things due to their cf child or allowing time for it to "settle"?

Am i just that behind in tech that i don't know about the new found ways for CF to inconvenience us? I am a strong believer of living life and not letting CF live your life for you. I do what i want and when i want i do nebs when i find them convenient maybe 1-3 times a month i do not take enzymes but maintain a weight at 105-110 depending on if its bikini season or not.

I work in day care and am around snotty children and flu all day.. My lungs work above a 68% or better. I'm not saying that everyone should be as relaxed as i am about their care or the care of their children because i know if and when i have kids with CF i will be on them like white on rice but i also know that ever cf-er i know that has been religious with their care has passed and here i am living a care free life and it looks like I am around for the long haul.

Do what you want to do but also know that you have to enjoy living your life and its just ridiculous to avoid things like air freshener or candles because what your child may cough a little.. ITS WHAT WE DO <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I use air freshener once in awhile and carpet fresh in our room when I vacuum. I also use hairspray, perfume and body spray. But not with DS in the same room. I also burn candles; however, when DS was an infant with newly developing lungs, recovering from bronchitis. Absolutely not, especially not in the room he slept in which also had the changing table.

Manda- I think it's absolutely wonderful that you are able to be around smoke, perfume, candles etc and not have it affect your lungs. For me, scents and smells GREATLY affect my breathing and if I'm around smoke I will start coughing up blood. As I'm sure you know, CF affects 1000's of CFers in 1000's of different ways. You do your treatments 1-3 times a month and I do mine 4 times a day, and it looks like we have the same lung function. The fact that you don't have to work as hard to maintain your lung function is a blessing and I'm glad to hear that you are taking FULL advantage of life.

I am a huge advocate for CF parents NOT to use all of those air fresheners, candles, etc cause unlike you and me, their children can't always speak up.

And by the way everybody, it's not just CF children who have stinky poo, I peel paint off of walls....
