Strategies to combat colds

Hi folks,

Today I woke up with the familiar feeling: sore throat, stuffy nose, and bad sleep. Yep, it's a Cold.

For the average Joe (sixpack) it's no big deal. However, we all know that once a cold has worked its way to your lungs you are potentially in for weeks of hacking.

My question is, what are your PROACTIVE strategies to combating colds? I don't want to have to deal with this going to my chest and waking up in the middle of the night with a cough. Also, how long does it take for a cold and a cough to pass through your body? Any tips would be great!

If I know when and where exactly I was exposed, I come home and take all my clothes off and soak them in water with peroxide and diet tonic water and sometimes dump ice in the water, and I go shower. Then I irrigate my sinuses after my shower and take some supplements. Some antivirals that help me: vitamin A, vitamin E, olive leaf extract, diet tonic water, alkaline minerals like calcium or magnesium.

I wipe down my purse, watch and anything that was exposed, even pouring peroxide over my shoes. If I got sick during the night, I wash my sleep clothes and sleep area/bedding. I wash or wipe down anything and everything that may have been directly exposed so I don't reinfect myself. I usually suffer less than 24 hours with a cold.

Good luck with this.

I put hydrogen peroxide in the kids and my ears when I fear we may be getting sick. For the kids I use a q-tip and just try to get as much in as possible. They actually ask me to do it. As for me I put a little more in and let it sit in my ears until they stop bubbling and then let it drain out.
I also do this after being in a doctors office.
They say that the ears are where most yucky germs enter into our system.
Blessings,
Missa

Eat some really spicy food--the kind that makes you sweat and your nose run. I don't know if this is bad advice for a CF'er. I have stomach issues but don't find them worse with spicy food...never had reflux.

Eat fresh fruit and veggies and chicken soup.

Go on a run OR do a lot of stretching (I find that if I huddle and cringe while sick, I get atelectasis and other badness). Go to bed EARLY. Stay warm.

Good luck!
