My friend's children just had their first sweat test yesterday and tomorrow the second one will be done. The son's score was 117 and the daughter's was 95. Does high numbers mean anything particular?

I believe up to 40 is considered not to have cf.
40-60 is borderline.
And above 60 is positive.

the numbers don't have any real correlation to the CF case per se. What is helpful to know about the number is it does represent how much more salt is lost through the skin, so hydration and salt intake is more important to people with CF and especially those with the higher sweat test numbers - they will dehydrate faster on hot days than anyone else. It is very important to have things like gatoraid and salty snacks on hand, especially when it's hot or doing an activity that will cause sweating (running, playing, sports etc) You may also see white, salty spots around the temples/hair line or back, underarms that sort of thing more too.

many people reporting very low sweat test numbers on this thread -- this is not as clear cut as just looking at the chart and saying below 40 is normal !
