Clothing can be a bit of an issue for us, but it doesn't have to be. For ladies especially, look for clothing that isn't made of a lot of Lycra or Spandex. Clothing that is made of "stretch cotton" is sometimes a good bet. Also, look for tops that aren't fitted across the bottom hem. V-neck tops are very flattering on most women, and draw attention away from our "kangaroo pouch" tummies. Of course, don't go too low on the V or you'll run the risk of being immodest <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
Even if you're a "juniors" size because of how skinny you are, avoid shopping in the Junior's department. The latests trends can be too clingy and unflattering for those of us who are barrel chested. Instead, try looking in the petites department. Those sizes run small where you need them to be (such as narrow in the shoulders and across the butt) but they allow for those bumps and bulges that the teenyboppers don't seem to have. Petites clothing sizes are designed for the more "mature" shape, just in a smaller package. Fitted blouses are very flattering, and A-line dresses with flutter sleeves are great for showing off our slim upper arms!
If you have the means, I highly recommend adding a few "essentials" to your closet; things like a good fitting (possibly deisgner) pair of jeans, nice slacks, a blouse that goes well with either slacks or jeans, and then some sort of feminine blazer with a lot of detail in the stitching can make you look and feel good.
And don't forget to buy a pair of AWESOME shoes. That's something I learned from our late friend, "littledebbie." Never skimp on great shoes!
