TB TESTING

Jada was questioning whyI had my yearly TB testing during my last checkup on Tuesday. She was wondering if its recommended that all CF patients get it etc.

I told her that I didnt know, but that I have ALWAYS gotten annual testing. I said maybe certain areas that are higher in TB exposure due to drugs or prison population makes a dfference, but I wasnt sure.

SO we are putting this out to all of you!

Does your clinic do TB testing? IF so is it annual? What state do you live in? Do you know if its state required somehow or just a precaution?

Thanks for helping ease Jada's mind <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

I thought I'd read some place years ago that CFers couldn't GET TB. I just googled it quickly and came up with this...

They require TB testing as part of the TX evaluation process. Many centers will not transplant if the person has TB.

We recently met a family who's daughter had a latent form of TB. And CF.

Sadly she passed on a few days ago. She was 20.

I recall reading this article before or one like it, that linked the idea that CF'ers were resistent to Cholera, Salmonella, and ecoli, which is why there were so many Cf'ers or carriers in Europe after the Cholera epidemic. All of the other people that didnt carry a CF gene died of Cholera.

Very interesting.

Interesting.....the way I read it is that having ONE copy of the CF gene protects you & kind of makes up for the loss of those with TWO genes. Makes me wonder tho......
