The Presidential Debates

What did everyone think of the first one? I hear the next one will be a town hall type format with the audience able to ask questions to the candidates-no question will be off limits.
But to last week's debate. At first, there was clearly no winner, as there were no "stand-out" moments. I liked when Obama pointed out forcefully that McCain was wrong about Iraq, and McCain got one on Obama when they were speaking about sitting down with the leader of Iran without preconditions. But my big problem with McCain's performance was that he couldn't look Obama in the eye, not even once. Now especially if there's going to be millions of viewers who you want their vote, not looking your opponent in the eye shows a clear, precise weakness. If McCain can't even acknowledge Obama when he chastises him, who's to say he will acknowledge foreign leaders? This type of behavior that McCain displayed can really cause some anti-American sentiment. McCain kinda seemed like the grumpy old grandfather type who you don't want to talk to. I hated how he said many times, "Senator Obama clearly doesn't understand (insert topic)" Yea right, I think Obama exercised an extensive knowledge of the subject at hand as evidenced by the exhausting facts and figures that were presented, but everytime Obama pointed out McCain's flaws, McCain didn't rebut them, no he did the next best thing-he laughed.

But IMO this debate had little to do with issues and speaking ability, but their posture spoke volumes. Of course, I'm bias, so I'd like to hear what other people think, Brad what are your thoughts?

I really thought the debate was worthless. No issues were really addressed & I dont think either came out a clear "winner". I do understand the mannerism that you mentioned & yes to many people this is an indication of something.....good or bad is what we need to see I guess!

Isnt there a VP debate to happen? THAT I am interested in!

Yes there is a VP debate on Thursday at 9. I hear it will be the most watched VP debate in history. But IMO Palin has made some real gaffes, especially in her interviews with Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric. Now I don't think she is stupid, just not psychologically outfitted do deal with the issues effecting Americans and perform her job. Thursday night will be her 3rd and last job interview, and most Americans seem to think she's a heartbeat away from the Presidency, that's the big reason why so many will be tuned in.
