I heard the reason McCain did not look at Obama is because he's just used to a format where the canidates do not look at each other. McCain has shown in the past he has no problem addressing people directly.
Also, I didn't think Obama understood what he was talking about, either. He may have had some facts or figures or whatever, but it was clear McCain was the one with experience. When people are fresh out of college, they may have a lot of knowledge, but they don't have a lot of on-the-job experience; or in other words they have knowledge, but they don't yet understand how to apply that knowledge. That was the difference I saw between McCain and Obama during the debate.
One other thing, I thought Obama looked like a bit of a hypocrite talking about how we are going through the "worst financial crisis since the Great Depression" and he wouldn't even return to Washington to work on it. If there's a huge financial crisis, what would you rather have a president do? Obama called McCain and said they should issue a statement. McCain called Obama and said they should return to Washington and do something about it. Then Obama said "Maybe we sould issue a statement first." So, do you want a president who'd going to issue a statement, or a president who's going to try to do something about it?
Anyway, those are my thoughts from the debate.
