The Presidential Debates

Well McCain had absolutely no reason not to acknowledge Obama, as their podiums were facing each other, and the moderator did instruct them to debate eachother. Actually, McCain looked like he was trying frantically to keep a secure lid on his ohh so bad temper. Trying to assuage his emotions, as to not self-destruct in front of the cameras. He looked pissed at times, and uneasy. I'm waiting for the next debate and maybe if asked tough questions, McCain will lose his temper. His temper seems to be his achilees heel.

McCain said last week that the "fundamentals of our economy are strong". Really? Then why the need for the bailout? McCain's suspension of his campaign was political theater at it's worst. He laid the bait for Obama, and Obama didn't bite. McCain I'm sure thought that this stunt would do something to improve his poll numbers, but the bailout failed, and McCain did absolutely nothing. What McCain can't multi-task? As President, he'll be facing a lot of problems, and he can't "suspend" things to deal with others. Why not campaign and work on the problem simeltanously? McCain's poll numbers are down now, I wouldn't be surprised if he came out with yet another politically motivated "stunt". Before the Republithugs' convention his numbers were going south, so he pandered, and chose a female running mate clearly as a gimmick to get Hillary's votes. Women are smarter then that. I know I'd be deeply offended if I were a woman. Even Stevie Wonder can see what McCain did. The vetting done of Palin consisted of a phonecall. I was under the impression that she is a pitbull. It seems to me that everytime she opens her mouth it is a catastrophe for the Repubs. Then the last time he suspended his campaign thinking Americans would sympathize with him, only to have it backfire. John McCain obviously puts his election first, then country.

But I think during the debate Obama missed a key opportunity to chastise McCain. He should have said, "Senator McCain, I thought you said you wouldn't show up here unless a bailout deal has been reached? What gives, if you are going back on your word now, how can the American people believe anything you say?" McCain wouldn't have an answer for this. McCain seemed to have an extensive knowledge of military leaders from the past, as he should have, but most Americans have no clue who he's talking about, and that only confirms how old he is.

Age shouldn't be a discriminant factor against becoming a president...Let me rephrase that...being a certain "old age" shouldn't be a discriminant factor..there is a mandatory minimum age, and the closest to that was JFK!

I'm also going to add I like what Mockingbird had to say.

"Mockingbird for Prez!" <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Yes, our economy is in the tank but the fundamentals of our economy are strong. Take any econ or accounting class and you learn the the fundamentals of our economy reside in our constitution/freedoms and in capitalism. Those core beliefs/ideals/structures/fundamentals haven't changed since the founding of our country.

What "fundamentals" do you think are weak?

Well a long respected republithug Alan Greenspan said John McCain's economic plan would be a disaster for America. The maverick has been in Washington some 26 years, clearly long enough to know the simple difference between a failed economy and one that is fundamentally ok. The fact of the matter is that he wouldn't be saying this if he was not running for President. The country is in the worst economic state since the Great Depression and John McCain thinks it's ok. If he thinks everything is ok, why would he change anything? America needs change. I guess the fundamentals are good for people like McCain, who own a pair of $500 shoes and have 7 houses and 13 cars. If McCain meant the workers, then he is severely out of touch. The dollar is low, more and more jobs are being shipped overseas, more homes are foreclosing, and some college-educated are finding their having to settle for jobs at Burger King. So now McCain wants the workers to help solvent this economy, when they've been shafted for 8 years of policies that he supported? Debt is skyrocketing, unemployment is rampant, energy and grocery prices are fiscally raping the average American, and the housing market is in shambles. So I answer your question with a question of my own, what fundamentals of our economy do you feel are strong?

McCain's age is surely a key dynamic. Being is he was a smoker for 20 some odd years, even if he stopped now; it will take some years off of his life. He has had cancer, and if it comes back, can spread and he can become seriously ill. Now anyone can die anytime, Obama could get ran over crossing the street, but given the factors of McCain's age and health status, the odds are greater that he will succumb. Life expectancy for the average male is like 75, so it kinda makes sense that people would worry about the age and health of the man who's gonna be steering their ship. McCain has endured many nights of physical as well as mental torture at the hands of the Vietnamese, a fact which he constantly brings up. These are the things Americans will have to judge. Are they willing to roll the dice and risk having a man who has a high chance of not living out his term in the White House, and with a totally inexperienced VP? That is the question and I think it is a very important question.
