I don't know, but for some reason it doesn't bum me out that much. if more people are able to screen their babies for horrible diseases and bypass them, kudos to them. perhaps it's because i'm pro-choice and i have friends who've gotten abortions for other reasons (they were too young to have children, etc.) and they've moved on with their life. life is tough enough without a tough disease like CF to deal with. although it's my personal opinion that everyone has some kind of monkey on their back that is their own personal challenge. i think with CF i've had a wonderful life. but some parents can't handle it and the extra responsibility of a CF kid, and i can respect that.

Jane, lung function is affected by so many other things than your 2 CF genes. Modifier genes, environment, compliance with medication, physician care, etc all have a huge effect as well. just look on this board - we have people with the same two CF genes are they have varying clinical outcomes.

in terms of college, i lived with a roommate the entire time. no need for my own room. i also lived in a sorority house with 60 other women. you can still do meds when you live with others! no need to affect your social life or be ashamed of meds.....

You're welcome. As for me... I actually have a Class II and a Class I. Somehow, I'm 24, and the PFTs I had this past Monday were 101% and 103%. I've seen more trouble as I've grown up, but it's progressive, so that makes sense (even with awesome FEV1s, my small airways suck). College can be trying, but as long as she knows what she has to do and actually sticks to it, she should be okay.

Amy... I had my own room. I left my door open when I did meds, I was never ashamed of that. I was, however, embarrassed by pooping my brains out and farting like it was my job. LOL
