to those who have had sinus surgery

I believe Tiffany had around 6 sinus surgeries and it was a good thing for her. She had chronic polyps and then her sinuses would become breeding grounds for all kinds of nasty stuff. One of the things she struggled with was the drainage and infections going to her lungs from the sinuses so we were pretty aggressive with it. Having the right ENT doc is sooo important. They will make or break your experience. We have fired one ENT doc and next one we got was amazing. If Tiffany stayed aggressive with the rinsing it helped reduce the infections, polyp growth, and sinus pressure. She usually made her decision on the time for the next surgery based on the pain that she was going through with the headaches and the advice of our ENT docs. She also rinsed with gentamyacin that really helped keep infections down. If the sinuses were open it allowed that gent to get up in there and do its job. It was worth it for her.

The removal of the packing gauze from my sinus was not pleasant nor were the weekly visits to have my sinus cleared for the following month. BUT, I had not one headache, eye pain, fever etc until 6 years later.

The 2nd surgery was a bit different. The procedure was the same, but I did have polyps and scar tissue from the first surgery, which made it a bit more complicated. I PERSONALLY had an issue with the anesthesia and woke slightly in the middle of surgery! They had to stop put me to sleep then wake me again. I had to go back a week later for them to do it all over!!! That was 12 years ago! WOW!! Since then, not a single issue. Sure I get stuffy noses and allergies, but I would have to say sinus surgery changed my ability to breathe! I can't say I would do it again. Not because of that surgery, but because of other surgeries that have caused me issues. I am a firm believer in acupuncture for all my ailments, cf or not.

I too have never messed with my sinuses but I want to get a stack in the ground for how they are doing. I wouldn't expect I am due for surgery. This is also one of the reasons I chose Dr. Vining. She does not suggest surgery unnecessarily.

I've had two surgeries and they have both helped me feel better. I sometimes get infections that antibiotics can't touch, so the doctor has to go in there and scrape it out. It gets rid of the overall feeling of being sick (body aches, night sweats, tiredness, etc). So, totally worth it for me!

I had four of my sinus surgeries in the 90's when the actual operation was brutal. My fifth operation was more recent. I had excellent results. I would vote for sinus surgery. I am due for my sixth one, but this time we need to operate on my frontal sinuses.

Just had my 5th one on Thursday and they are a huge help! If they weren't, I wouldn't have done it 5 times! The first one was horrible because the doctor put packing in my nose and I will never go through that again!! My last 4 were fine though. No packing! This last one, 2 days ago, went was fine too. Only took 1/2 vicodin a few times, but already on plain tylenol. My lungs usually stay clean for a good year before needed any antibiotics! Otherwise, I am usaully on IV every other month.
