Traveling by plane with medication?

Hubby and I were looking to fly to the US from Canada so we could visit my family again. (Haven't in two years) but we have never traveled with his medication before other than enzymes. Now that he is on Pulmozyme, it needs to be refrigerated. <div><br></div><div>What tips would you have for keeping Pulmozyme cool, how to package it, and what temperature it should be kept at? Our trip would be over 6 hours long and could be longer with connections. I've never traveled internationally with anything other than enzymes. I would probably call your clinic to make sure, but I think it would be ok to leave the pulmozyme unrefrigerated during your flight to Canada. If I am wrong, then your only recourse would be to mail it ahead, or pack it with one of your bags with some dry ice to keep it cool (although I would check with TSA to avoid any problems).

i have traveled a few times by plane with pulmozyme. if you have a small coolie freezer pack, make sure that is frozen and travel with a small cooler like the size of a lunch box. i have a bottle sized cooler that i use to travel with now. i've never had any problems through security with it. just make sure you have your prescription label with you and inform them as soon as you get up to the check point that you have refridgerated medication. i went over the tsa rules a lot before i flew to make sure i did everything right. you can go to the tsa website and check for tips of do's and don'ts.

We took a letter from the pulmonologist that stated we were traveling with prescription medication that had to be refrigerated and the letter stated we had to have refreezable ice bags. The TSA folks took the meds and icepacks and scanned them with a wand that they said they used to scan baby formula. Other than the delay in the security line we got through just fine. The icepacks were a bigger issue than the medicine which was liquid in a large prescription bottle. Ensure a copy of the letter is on file at the doctor's office and a phone number for the on-call doctor's line is also on the letter. Worst case TSA can call and verify the letter.

Wow, thanks everyone. Excellent tips and very helpful. Going to write this all down. This will make the trip so much easier. Any particular size/brand of cooler? And any problems with the ice pack staying cool long enough for the trip?

i have flown from fl to hawaii before. i don't recall having an issue with all of my stuff staying cool.
