vesting upside-down

The last time my 16 year old son was in the hospital, they tilted the bed while he did the vest so he was inclined with his head toward the floor. It seemed to help! When we got home, we decided to try it. We put a bunch of pillows under his back and hips, and had him tilt backward. It looked really funny. Right when he started the vest, a friend knocked on the door. My son got out of that position so fast! He was mortified that someone would think he was undergoing some kind of strange torture!

Often when there's a special "lump" I can't seem to cough out, I'll try to get it out upside-down, I'm very flexible and can stand up and put my head between my knees, and it DOES seem to help!
I haven't tried it with the vest (I think it would have to be backwards) though, great idea!

I was told by my RT not to do the vest upside down. She said most CF patients have acid reflux that they are unaware about and it can cause all sorts of problems including aspiration- w/o knowing. She had research to back it up- if I can find it, I will post.

I dont ??? the upside down in general as that is how I was brought up doing CPT.

Now that my lung function is down & my bouts of hemoptysis I cant always be at an angle. It helps when I can with the manual CPT.

I still dont see how my vest would give me the same treatment unless I am not laying on it while being upside down which means I would have to be a bat LOL!
