I wear glasses for reading/computer. I see pretty clearly but get eye strain and headaches if I don't wear them.

I was in 3rd grade when I first got glasses. But as kids do I stopped wearing them for a long time. I got them again when I was about 20.

My vision has not worsened.

Both of my parents and my brother wear glasses. My brother just for reading like me, my mom has astigmatism, and my dad wears his all the time.

I had contacts for a while. I could actually see better with them (with my glasses stuff far away is slightly blurry) but my eyes were always so dry that they were very uncomfrtable a lot of the time. I tried so many different kinds of drops and even the contacts made for people with dry eyes but nothing helped. My eyes were so dry that the contacts actually scratched the surface of my eyes.

I have a lazy eye which has worsened and is almost completely blind out of it but my other eye is perfect vision an i reply 100% on it. I used to wear glasses and an eye patch and the whole nine yards but it wasnt helpful and for now my optomitrist said i dont need glasses until later when my good eye becomes strained. I did wear contacts however and didnt have any issues with them in regards to the salt thing!!

First I want to note how interesting it is that, unless I read wrong EVERY SINGLE person seems to be nearsighted? Fascinating.
Alright my turn:
Do you wear glasses for distance, reading or other?
Yes. I am nearsighted. I have a stigmatism in my left eye and was told I wouldn't need glasses if it weren't for that fact. Though a year and a half later closing my left eye now, I think I would need glasses even without my stigmatism.

Do you wear them all the time if for distance or other?
I first got glasses when I was about 14, and they were only for distance/driving. But then when I was 19 because of my stigmatism I had to be upgraded to full time glasses.

How old were you when you first got them?
Read above.

Has your vision worsened since first getting glasses?
Yes, last checkup was about 10 months ago, and they said it was worse but not worse enough to NEED better glasses, in the past month or so I've noticed that I really need better glasses.

Do you have CFRD? If so did you at the time of first needing glasses?
Nada.

Does anyone in your family wear glasses (CF or not, but specify anyway) and if so since what age and for reading, distance etc?
My mother and my father. Mother didn't need them until she was older, Father wore them since childhood.

Has anyone been told they have enlarged optic nerves? If so has anything other then checkups been required?
.....don't think so.

Has anyone dealt with Glaucoma?
Not that I know of.

Has anyone tried contacts? If so, do you find a problem do to the extra salt we deal with??
I had contacts, and it took about 3 different tries to find one that fit and didn't slide around, but the thought never even struck me that it could be because of salt. But I will note that I hate wearing them, they are very uncomfortable for me and slide around constantly and dry out easily, and this was the brand that WORKED.
Do you wear glasses for distance, reading or other?

distance--driving, especially needed them in high school and college to see the black board, movies, TV.

Do you wear them all the time if for distance or other?

i wear them most of the time but i do take them off when i'm at home (unless watching TV) and always when i'm eating!

How old were you when you first got them?

about 15 or 16.

Has your vision worsened since first getting glasses?

a little but not too much.

Do you have CFRD? If so did you at the time of first needing glasses?

yes; yes.

Does anyone in your family wear glasses (CF or not, but specify anyway) and if so since what age and for reading, distance etc?

yes, we all do. dad (probably forever) and brother (since college) wear for near-sightedness like me; mom (last 10 years or so) for reading.

Has anyone been told they have enlarged optic nerves? If so has anything other then checkups been required?

no, i've never been told this.

Has anyone dealt with Glaucoma?

no.

Has anyone tried contacts? If so, do you find a problem do to the extra salt we deal with??

no; when i was younger and might have been interested i was told diabetics could not wear contacts b/c of increased risk of infection. i was recently told this isn't or is no longer true. i have no interest now.

Do you wear glasses for distance, reading or other? I do for night driving due to stigmatism

Do you wear them all the time if for distance or other? just at night. your pupils dilate at night to allow more light in, and this exacerbates my stigmatism

How old were you when you first got them? 18

Has your vision worsened since first getting glasses? nope stayed about the same

Do you have CFRD? If so did you at the time of first needing glasses? no CFRD

Does anyone in your family wear glasses (CF or not, but specify anyway) and if so since what age and for reading, distance etc? parents needed them starting at age 43-ish for reading (typical age-related glasses for up close things)

Has anyone been told they have enlarged optic nerves? If so has anything other then checkups been required? Yup, I have a very large optic nerve. Have since I 1st got annual eye exams at age 9. But since I have a 15 year record of the optic nerve being the same size, it's no big deal. Mom has a big optic nerve as well - they chalk it up to genetics

Has anyone dealt with Glaucoma? no
