wedding ?

My son is going to be married in 4 weeks time so we know all about the expenses of big weddings.

If it had been his choice he would have gladly gone to City Hall to be married but his bride wants the big wedding. Myself, whatever makes my son happy, makes me happy even though I think the money would be better spent on going toward deposit for a house.

I am actually in the same boat as you are right now with getting married...

As of right now our plans for getting married this year most likely wont happen since hell be going to school and as will I, but even before those plans money andd deciding on whether I was a big wedding or not was the issue for us.

I dont want to have to rely on anyone with my wedding. And money is tight.

After reading all of the responses, my best advice is to have a courthouse wedding (invite your parents and any really close relatives) then maybe a day or two later have a party. Rent a hall, get the food, and then there ya go!!

I want a small wedding. Simple. But with all my family and pauls friggin family its going to be big. on His moms side alone she has 8 brothers and sisters!!!! and thats not including HER!!! and with their kids etc...itll b big...

I have a diamond but I didnt even want that. Paul picked it out all on his own...I told him even a simple gemstone ring would be find like my birthstone or something but he didnt listen to me (as usual lol)...and right after I got my ring I saw the movie blood diamond (I think thats what its called) and I felt bad...when we get wedding bands ill prolly wear that the most.

I dont think ive been much help giving my input but when it all comes down to it...its your decision you know?
if your reception is going to also be kinda like a going away party you prolly should have it and there are lots of ways you can save some money!

Ive been saving some cute and helpful tips from brides.com and I will private message them to you so maybe you can have some good ideas in there.

Good luck with everything!!!!!

have the wedding in a courthouse or civil bureau... tell yours/his family they are more than welcome to come... then go out to dinner afterwards with everyone... or no big wedding, but they are still there to "witness" it and you can have a small celebration afterwards... if you keep it just to family then you can safely say to friends that you only had family present...

You shouldn't have to do something you don't want cuz it's your day.
Here's the thing: your family and friends just want to be there for this huge day.

I say, get a nice white dress (or outfit) that make you comfortable.

Have one of your friends (or family) become an ordained minster (you can do it on the internet) have them conduct the ceremony.

Then have the ceremony in the same place you have the reception & have a huge party afterward. Have it in a hall, outdoors, your home, wherever you want.
It doesn't have to be about religion or dresses. It's about you and the people you love.
Good luck <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
