Weird Questions

Umm... the WEIRDEST thing just happened. We are watching my I's and O's (intake and output, how much I drink and how much I pee) because of my kidneys, which means I get the joy of collecting pee in a hat. Anyway, I just buzzed my nurse because my hat is full and told him when he came in that my pee was unusually concentrated and he said,
"Are you sure it's your pee?"

And I started laughing because, umm, I have a private bathroom. I asked him if he was being serious or making a joke. He said he was being serious. I was like... WTF???? Who in the hell would come in my bathroom and pee in my hat? Plus I JUST peed, of course I know it's my pee!

This nurse is a little weird to begin with.

the weirdest thing i've been asked is that "are you sexually active" question the hospitol always asks, that wouldn't be weird except for the fact i was like 12 at the time, i guess its just hospitol policy but just one look at me probably could have answered his question

I had an ER nurse ask if I have CF all over. I know a lot of people even in the medical field don't know a lot about CF but I laughed. I was like "Well, I have DNA all over."

A general practitioner once told me that for my general health I should watch my weight. Laughed again.

Brian had a nurse after his kidney was removed who didn't speak english. That was fun. He called me in a panic at 4:30 in the morning and told me to get there NOW.

When I was in the hospital for dehydration due to a kidney infection they couldn't get my IV started because I was so dehydrated that my veins were collapsed. Anyway they took so long getting it in that I missed lunch so they ordered me a late tray. I didn't get to pick what I got, so I ended up with a tuna sandwhich which is the last thing you want when you are that sick. I almost threw up on it from the smell. They also gave me coffee. Lets give a diaretic to someone who is dehydrated!

Yeah, it's sometimes stunning how stupid trained hospital staff can be. Pretty freaky. Before I was admitted I did a few days of IV meds at home and went with a new company who insisted on sending a nurse out. So he was telling me about how he used to treat a patient w/CF who had a lung transplant and how great it was because she was completely healed. I told him that while a lung transplant fixes a lot of problems with CF, it's not a cure-all, end-all for the disease and he kept arguing and finished it by saying, "Let's just agree to disagree then!" I was astounded.

The nurses from that company were terrible. One called me six different times insisting she come over to change my PICC dressing. I kept telling her I don't have a PICC line, I have a port, and I change the dressing myself. She kept saying it was against their policy to allow patients to do anything on their own with their PICC lines. Again, I told her repeatedly I DIDN'T HAVE A PICC LINE. But she called back for three days straight until I finally told her she was an idiot and that I was going to report her to her management (which I did).

Ugh. Yeah. CF is all over the body. Hah. It's sometimes exhausting when people just don't get it.
