What do we say when asked about children

Sort of a spin off about the having children topic...

Until we had DS 4 years ago, DH and I got the typical "when are you going to have kids" questions from "well meaning" friends and relatives. We just waited 12 years until we felt we were financially and emotionally ready -- had planned to have two kids, but just didn't work out that way. The questions bothered me back then, but more recently, they're starting to torque me off.

Any witty responses?

I hate getting these questions! Recently I have been really blunt and say something like: "Well we are infertile, so while we would really like to have kids, it just isn't that easy" hoping to get them to realize that it is a rude question

I would always smile a sly smile and say, "we'll you'll be the third to know ok?"--the smile is key here They can take it a few different ways but they will probably leave you alone after that!

My husband and I struggled with this as well. Before we had our son, we tried for 3 years to get pregnant and couldn't. It was so annoying to us when people would ask, and we didn't really think it was their business to know we were trying for so long. For awhile our response was "working on it". then my husband started to just say "it isn't as easy for everyone", then people seemed to back off a little.
