What Extra Supplements do you take and why?

The only vitamin supplements I take are those that my doctor has recommended. If I find a specific type that I like, I check with the doc to make sure it's satisfying the requirements I need. I am severely deficient in all vitamin levels, which affects my physical and mental well-being. Here's what I take and why:

ABDEKS softgels (From SourceCF) 3 a day for general CF malabsorption issues
Oscal-Complete 2 a day for osteopenia
Vitamin B- helps with depression
Acidophilus-helps keep my gut from going nuts since I'm always on at least 2 antibiotics at once
Pancreacarb enzyme supplements- usual CF malabsorption issues

Here's an article about CF and Vitamin Supplements:

I've had many well-meaning friends recomend different herbal products or special drinks that are supposed to promote overall health, but I don't believe those will benefit me. I know where my deficiencies are, and I know which aspects of my health are impacted by different vitamins. I don't believe that there is one "magical product" that will be the end to all my problems. For some people, like my friend who has MS, perhaps it works. I'm just not willing to go that route.

Be careful about using things that do not have to go through an FDA approval process. I trust my doctors immensely, so I know they wouldn't steer me wrong when it comes to recommending supplements. Nonetheless, I'm still always doing what I can to educate myself and examine the chemistry of the human body to gain a better understanding of WHY we're deficient in vitamins and minerals, and what we can do to improve ourselves.

Gosh, the only prescribed meds i take are pulmozyme and azithromycin, the rest are supplements/vitamins as follows:

1) Magnesium x 2 per day (enables Pulmozyme to work better, reduces anxiety and heart palpitations, strengthens bones)

2) Triple Strength Garlic, Horseradish and Vitamin C x 2 per day (keeps sinuses clear, boosts immune system)

3) GSH caps x 3 per day - Antioxidant and mucolytic

4) Probiotics x 2 per day - combats damage caused by ABs, boosts immune system

5) ADEKs x 2 per day

6) Oregano Oil Caps x 2 per day - antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic

7) NeilMed Sinus Rinse every morning

I am also about to ass MSM to my arsenal in an attempt to combat my lung scarring. Also have just ordered GSH/Curc caps to replace the plain GSH i currently take, and buffered GSH for inhaltion and i'm trying to get some Pharmanac also.

BTW - I feel great!! heaps of energy, lungs are clear after my morning physio, high exercise tolerance, huge appetite, happy and didn't get sick with even a cold all winter, it is now nearly spring over here. Yay!!

Hey,

I'm always experimenting with different things. Right now I am trying this concoction...
For anti inflammatory and antioxidant support:

MSM: 4 grams per day
GSH inhaled: 200 mg twice daily in my HS
DHA: 1.5-2 grams a day
Curcumin: 1-1.5 grams a day
Quercetin: 1-1.5 grams a day
Bromelain: 250-500 mg a day
Vitamin C: 2 grams a day
Resveratrol: 100 mg a day
Coq10: 100 mg a day
pharmanac: 1.8 grams a day

Anti infective:
Oregano oil: 6-10 drops twice daily
Thyme: 2 grams daily
Cat's claw: 2 grams a day
Grape seed extract: 1-1.5 grams a day.

I also take calcium and two adeks a day. I was quite sick the beginning of august, and am starting to feel like my old self (able to excercise, not tired all the time). I think I'm gonna stick with this for a bit, but i might lower the antiinfective regiment, cause i am taking quite a high dose to get to my old self.

I feel pretty good with this.

A lot of this stuff does have research with it in regards to cf, and some is a little speculative (ie cat's claw, GSE). My thoughts are that we are dying no matter what we do, so might as well give some alternative things a try <img src="">
