oh my I cant believe youve been going thru this for 8 months. my heart goes out to you.

I called his doc today and she was pretty surprised this has happened so Aidan is being addmitted tomorrow.(sad..sigh) she said that being as two oral abx have failed then they move to IV. which I preparred myself for when she called me back. The good thing is we dont have to stay at the hospital for two weeks. He gets his pic line start the meds we stay over night for observation. and I can give him his meds at home.

They will show mw how to do it at the hospital and a nurse will come to my house and show me again.

What is going on with my son? ***Update he's being addmitted***

If anyone has experience on giving meds thru their 4 year old pic line at home please help me. ths is my first time..

Is Aidan going to try to pull it out?
I'm not squeemish so I dont have a problem with needles or anything. or giving this to Aidan so I'm not going to be a panicy mess and frighten him. I'm more wondering what its going to be like on his end.

I dont want to make him feel like something is "wrong" and this be a bad experience. Our CF reality has arrived early in a way we didnt expect so soon. So I guess this is a reality check and pic lines and meds are a way of life for our CF kids. I kind of want to go thru this like we have for the past four years with everything and it being a way of life for Aidan. does that sound terrible for me to say? But I feel that Aidan is the awesome boy who can adapt to anything cause of what was put upon him at birth and he really doesnt know any different from a CF life. So me having the attitude with him of 'here, buddy need to take this med. come with mama.' is better for all of us no fuss no panic lets not make a huge thing bout it and get thru the two weeks.

Elizabeth,
thinking of you and Aidan-thnx so much for your "can do" attitude. As a 34 cf-er i can share that my parents outlook and approach really made an impact in how I handle my health today. hang in there-take one day at a time

It's great you caught it so early that you can do home IVs. Just make sure to keep up with the chest pt every 4 hrs. That's the one thing many of us have difficulty doing that most hospitals get right. Also well rounded meals. Lots of calories and sleep. And no your child will not try to pull the PICC out. Great job Elizabeth for being so proactive! Your son's lungs will be healthier for it.
