When are vests typically prescribed?

After reading the recent thread about the vest, I was wondering if it is the norm for the kiddos to get a vest as young as a year old. My dd is 13 months so I am wondering if she will get one soon. Lucky for us, she tolerates treatments pretty well overall but I know it can change at the drop of a hat. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

My daughter got hers at about 20 months I believe. I asked about it at a pulmonologist appt. (we didn't go to CF Clinic at the time) and the nurse measured her to see if she was big enough for it and she was. I am not sure what part of her body they measured...the chest maybe. And I am not sure what the measurement requirement was either.

So I guess just ask your doctor.

I believe it depends on where you go and what part of the country you live it.

We go to the University of Minnesota clinic. They really believe in the vest. They told us when Emma was one month old that they prescribe the vest to all of their patients at 1 year old.

Max is 14 months old & he just got his. I believe that his chest measurement had to be at least 16" to qualify. Chest percussion (while he was awake) had become nearly impossible, so the vest was a welcome relief!
