when did your child start breathing treatments?

Ian was 3 when he needed to start doing them. Up to that point he had no problem getting over a cough without taking antibiotics which I doubt would happen now. At 3 Ian had his first bronchoscope and they found a bit of irritation in his lungs but almost no mucus. It was because of the irritation they saw that they decided to start Ian on pulmozyme.

I was dx at 6 months old and started the albuterol treatments almost right away. Pulmozyme wasn't around during my childhood so I can't really speak on that.

Just remember, it's ALL ABOUT getting out the mucus and controlling infection. Do WHATEVER you have to do for your child to control those two things. I can tell you that as a child, playing sports and running around the park was usually even more affective for me than treatments.

Hope this helps. Contact me for any additional questions.

The reason DS started breathing treatments, was to help open up the airways to help the CPT be more affective in keeping the lungs clear. He did get put on Tobi nebs when he was about 3 months old.

He didn't start pulmozyme until he was 2 1/2. And I suspect it was because that's just what the local clinic does. I did notice when he started it, that it was the first time ever that I saw his nose run. Must've turned his nose boogies into liquid.
