when did your child start breathing treatments?

Noah started receiving tx at 6 months, when he was dx w/ "reactive airway disease." Often the docs would say to forgo the albuterol b/c it wasn't improving the congestion, so they suggested regular saline in the neb, followed by percussions. This seemed to work as well as the tx, sometimes better. Its something to think about.

For most docs its what their preference; my doc was more about the natural remedies as opposed to all the chemicals. That's why I chose him.

My daughter is six months old. We do CPT once a day and that's it. We were told that she doesn't "need" the CPT yet, but that she needs it to be part of her routine from an early age, so that's why we're doing it.

I hesitate to say this because I've seen the firestorms that erupt around this phrase, but when I asked whether she should be doing some other more involved treatments for CF, her doctors said no, she has a "mild atypical form of CF", so she "doesn't need anything else yet". She doesn't take enzymes or any inhaled medications or any supplements other than the standard vitamin D drops that the pediatricians here recommend for all breast-fed babies her age.

I do wonder whether she should be getting more treatment or not. And I know that there's nothing that starts a religious war here faster than saying "mild CF" or "atypical CF"!

Why does that start a war?

There's 5 classes of genotypes all differing in severity. I don't think there is a problem with saying that. There are CFers out there with mild cases. There, I said it.

Some CFers out there don't even know they have it. Class 5 can be manifested in just not being able to father children. I would call THAT a mild case.
