When do we get a vest?

I have noticed people on here have vests for their kiddos that are younger than my daughter. I am just wondering when everyone got the vest and should I be pushing for it? Cassidy was hospitalized at 6 months, but has only had minor problems since. She does nebs 2x per day and we try to do manual cupping. So I just wonder when the vest comes in to play. I want to be proactive, not reactive.

We did manual chest pt for the first 2 1/2 to 3 years. That is when my son got his vest. The vest is great when I don't have the time to sit down and do manual chest pt but he still prefers manual chest pt over the vest (he is 5 years old). We usually do the vest once a day and manual chest pt once a day. The combination seems to keep his lungs clear.

Our son just turned #2 on Monday. During our last CF clinic visit we measured him for his vest, and made our decission on The In Courage Vest. Our clinic waits until the children are two, but I have read some kids get them even earlier than that. I'm all for getting things started when they are younger. We started his nebulizer when he was only six months, and now that he holds his little mask to his face and watches Barney. We have came along way!

You should push for it. Some clinics have different ages that are the given for starting it and others just require you asking. The vest is great and will free up your arms. Its also a much more consistent treatment.
