i almost always do mine at home. i have responsibilities and i cant deal with them if im stuck in hospital. my hospital is also extremely unhygenic and noisy and i get better faster at home anyway.

I know I am the exception to this rule. I prefer the hospital as does my doctor. When I return home which is always on IV's even at my best its not as "relaxing" as in the hospital. The intense CPT I receive in the hospital can not be duplicated at home. The not having to cook or "worry" about clean up or shopping (even if I dont actually do it) isnt there. The iv meds are taken care of for me instead of me trying to keep to a somewhat consistant routine at home without losing sleep. I most definitely miss home dont get me wrong. I definitely understand the fear of germs. Its just that for me I need that jump start (not just the meds) that comes with a hospital stay. BUT this is what works for ME!

I am also a stay at home girl. I like to start off in the hospital, b/c that helps me to jump start my routine to work hard and thus get better. (A)...I dont get sleep in the hospital. I have complained about this soooo many times and luckily my doc also believes in going home, b/c of this and my other reasons. (B)...I dont eat as well in the hospital and sometimes actually lose weight. And we all know how important weight is in our CF lives. (C)...I'm just more comfortable at home. Not to sound like a baby, but I still live with my parents and they help me out a lot with my meds, so I can sleep and whatnot. Granted this wont last forever, and yes I can do all of it myself and have before, but its nice to have my rents around if I need a break. (D)...All of those nasty germs in the hospital. I have always come home on IV's. Once I was in the hosp for three days and still came home with a stomach bug. I am terrified of getting new germs, but I feel like my hospital is pretty good. Ive watched them wash down equipment and wash hands and stuff...but its a hospital and germs are inevitably there somewhere. Not trying to sway anyone...thats just MY preference, and MY experiences

Previously, I have gone to school, work and led a 'normal' life with the PICC. Granted I know this is probably not the best idea and that I should def. try and cut down on the workload when I am on IV's, I just like being at home. When I was on IV's in June of last year...I went right back to work and then went to school two months later. I dont knnow if there is a correltaion, but I was in the hosp six months later. Typically before that I was only a once a year person, so when I was on IV's this past December, I took the whole two weeks to recover. I didnt allow myself to do anything except what I needed to. It was great to have that lil semi vacation. I know this wont last forever and next time I will probably have to go back to work right away, but who knows.

I guess I should add that my mom and MIL help with dishes and laundry, and my DH springs for a cleaning lady a couple of times (with our copay, still save about $500 even with the cleaning lady if I'm home ) . My MIL and mom also come over during my IV times while DH is at work, and take the kiddo home with them if I need a nap, etc. And I would much rather eat my own food, too. We can get stuff from the caf at the hospital, but then you have to hope someone remembers to bring it up, or go down their yourself. Much better than just the tray and snacks, but still not ideal (especially in flu season). I hope that when they get this all sorted out (which one is better) they have also taken into consideration the patients' support systems and health levels, and have alternate recommendations based on that too. I catch something everytime I'm in the hospital, too. Catching a cold or a stomach bug (one time it was mouth ulcers going around- fun) is usually what puts me into the hospital- I don't want another one when I get there- it almost feels like a waste of time, because I know I'm not getting the best tune up I can get *sigh*.

I normally have IV"s as results hemoptysis so I am in hospital first 24-48 horus then released to home.

Honestly I have never stayed at home when doing them at home I always go back to work too (except when I was pregnant). Does anyoen else do this or have you done it? How bad is it? I think I wll be re-evaluating this next time I get sick, especially with a child at home now.

I've been in hospital twice in my life - once when 5 yrs old for 5 days and once two years ago for 4 days.......IV's at home for me always. i can't sleep in hospital, horrible sounds, smells, sights put me off my food too, plus the food is so bad I woudn't feed it to pigs!! I know they do their best buy i'm a fussy eater, plus i miss my cats something terrible.
At home I live alone, do all my own treatments, never miss them, i also do all my own housework, cook all my meals every night and day, do all my own housework, plus i live on a lifestyle block of land so do all my own landscaping and garden maintenance as well on a 3/4 acre block.
I also continue to work full time while on IV's as I get too bored at home and need something to keep me focused and positive, although due to the schedule of three daily IV treatments, i work only about 6 1/2 hr days when sick - is it all tiring?? hell yes, but for me it is the best way to deal with it. I'm sure there will come a time when i get nasty infections that knock me off my feet so for now, i'll do as much as i can, while i can.
