When you thought about having children what did you do?

I told myself to leave this thread alone--but of course, I don't listen to myself...
I find I'm in the unique position of defending Amy--I think there has been an overreaction to Amy's first reply about being "selfless." As Lindsey, Emily, and Nicole pointed out, this has become ridiculous--the whole thread has now become about Amy. I'm sure spacemom has bowed out horror at the way this thread has gone.

As Amy said--AS SHE HAS ALWAYS SAID--she thinks having a child if you have CF, or if you think there is a chance the child will be born with CF--is selfish. What is wrong with looking at it from that perspective? If you disagree with that opinion, that is fine, but there is no need to attack her personally. Also, there was no need to feel that Amy attacked you personally--as in "OMG, she said I was selfish...!" Amy is trying to speak from what she thinks a child's perspective would be.

I think the response of Tara was dignified and respectful, and turned Amy's words back on her without insulting her. Tara's(way) was another way to look at it. As was mentioned earlier, because some of you are going on and on about Amy, we aren't even able to read other interesting perspectives about the original question.

Lindsey, Light, Mel, and a few others kept trying to turn the post back to the original question, to no avail. If we can't talk about the original question, then what is the point?? Another thread will get blocked because of the fighting...now THAT'S what will drive people away--not Amy's remarks...

I would like to interject that I agree with both Diane & Emily. *gasp*

As for what Diane said--it really is no secret that Amy can be direct, sarcastic and condescending at times and it rubs some people the wrong way. It bothers me, not for myself, but I tend to go for the under-dog.

Sometimes you just have to choose your battles and decide which ones you want to waste your energy on and most, well, a lot of the time I keep my flap shut just because it seems futile. (I must have a little 'extra' energy today--my flap didn't stay shut)

Having said all of that...as Emily pointed out, she's probably not going to change. Plenty of people have tried to point out to her that she could be a little more "politically correct"? in her responses and it ain't happened yet.

OK, I'm out of energy now *flap shuts*......
