Havoc:

I'm really sorry that I offended you. You talk about your education and I respect education. Maybe I'm easily offended and yes, I'm that sensitive, but then I'm not a health care professional. Unlike you, I was 15 before CF had a name and was 47 years of age before I was Dx and I won't attempt to educate you with what I went through in those 47 years.

As for education I have a BS in Industrial Management and I did my grad work within a marketing major in a MBA program. I understand that I'm not as smart as you but I do the best that I can.

I read that case. I think you need to expound a bit on the situation. She saw the torment her son (who was also autistic) was going through with the cancer treatments and was compliant for awhile, but at some point stopped giving them to him. I'm pretty sure the docs thought the treatment would send him into remission, but with what quality of life?

It wasn't the correct choice on her part, since he was not old enough to make a decision to stop treatment himself.

In debate, this is called a straw man argument. You make a statement that is loosely related to the debate at hand, but is much easier to attack. Comparing us to Ms LaBrie is, well, stupid.

None of us would be having this conversation had you taken the responsibility to educate and support Imanov. I think your reply to his thread was "This posting is offensive and should be taken down" and "where do I get whatever it is that your smoking?"

Admit it guys, you screwed the pooch and a few of us called you out on it. Now Imanov is gone and none of us can help him or his daughter.

No need to apologize, it wasn't just you that contributed to the debacle, although I accept your apology.  It's also not a question of who is smarter than whom.
You are correct that being a healthcare professional desensitizes you.  I've learned to detach my emotional response and do my job.  I take the same approach here, since we are in the business of helping people.  The problem I run into is that many people don't want advice or encouagement, they want their feelings validated.
When I used to teach we had a joke:  "What do you do with a really nasty looking wound?"  "Cover it up so you don't have to look at it."  Unfortunately this approach doesn't solve anything, and I like to fix things.  Others, it would seem, don't hold the same perspective.

Heh, I did it backwards. It's not to common for EMS professionals (at least in my area) who have a degree. When they find one they stick you in an office and a classroom. While I liked teaching, it was a bit boring for me and I went back to field work. I like getting my gloves dirty.
