Your clinic

There is no WAY I'd wait 2 weeks or more to get an appointment when I am sick. I can call my clinic and get in that same day if I feel it's necessary. Now, I do always call the NP directly, not the front desk folks, b/c she makes sure that I get an appointment even if there are no more appointments left. And I've been doing home IV's for about 10 years now, and there is no way I'd go back to the hospital. I recover SO much better at home, and my doctors are very supportive of that. I think you're making the right decision to switch clinics, good luck at your new one!

Hey ya'll!

Well, my clinic appt. today went better than I thought it would (and the Vegas clinic was pretty good and helpful!)

So, I am being admitted for another round of IV antibiotics within the next day or two. I went to the Vegas clinic this time around cause it was just too hard to make it to Salt Lake right now after feeling so run down and crummy. So, I went ahead and saw them today and did the entire 5-hour clinic visit and we decided it was probably time for another round. My lung function had dropped from 59% to 53%. I also have lots of wheezing when I breathe, which the Dr. thinks is possibly asthma-related. So, she is also putting me on prednisone for about 5 days to hopefully help with that. I've never taken prednisone, but am kind of excited that maybe this will help me breathe easier, especially since its something they've not tried before. And, the wheezing is unbelievable! I hear it even when I'm sitting and breathe out... a crackling in my upper chest that I had no idea was wheezing! I thought it was phlegm that couldn't come up!

I will be admitted to the hospital probably Thursday (what a great Valentine's day, eh?!?) or Friday (when they can find a bed, as the hospitals are FULL) and then will have conscious sedation to insert the PICC. After a couple of days I should be able to go home on home health for the remaining 11-12 days of antibiotics (thank goodness!!!) This clinic sees it the same way most clinics see it... the hospital is not the place to be unless you're really sick, cause often people get MORE germs and less rest there. Although they left the choice completely up to me. But, as I mentioned before, I get better results and just FEEL better at home. So, this is GREAT news!

I will keep ya'll posted. Thanks again for all the wonderful correspondence to my initial question.
