your OWN health insurance

Yep-you cannot get your own private insurance. I tried when I quit my job 10 years ago, and they all denied me. I ended up applying to the Washington State Health Insurance Pool and they had to cover me (its a state program) but it was terrible insurance. Super high deductible, etc.

I have since gone back to my job and have health insurance coverage through them. It is one of my main reasons (besides we need the money!) for working. Luckily my health is fine (and I am able to work from home) so its not an issue.

I have thought about getting added onto my husbands plan through his work, but since we already have our kids on that plan, it is $450 a month just to add me. I have also thought of getting my kids private plans (since I can't get one) and then it wouldn't cost much to add me to my husband's plan. But for now it works the way we have it.

And I agree-its not fair that they won't cover us. To me that seems like terrible discrimination. Something is going to have to change. Don't even get me started on health insurance right now! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
