    Moving to Hawaii....

There is a family with two children w/CF that moved to Hawaii in the last couple years (non military as far as I know), I know it's not the same as adult CF care but she may have some good input for you. Hopefully she'll see this!

Portrayed Life Expectancy Affecting Life Decisions

Tom makes a good point. This is a HARD position to be in for any parent- considering all of a child's needs, both academic and health, when they have a serious medical condition. We generally have to make many accommodations for them in various plans depending on their needs, whether it be...

Finding the large number of mutations out there via genetic testing IS an advancement in medical science, because it allows for earlier dx- and many of those mutations can and do cause severe disease. HOWEVER, many who are dx'ed much later in life with rare mutations clearly are not affected the...

I would think that this would probably apply to anyone who needed a liver transplant as well due to their CF... and I do see the logic in it (without it, no one with a transplant would still be around.) However, on the other hand- it sort of doesn't make sense either, since ALL the treatments...

    Enzymes & Feeding Tube

Emily has an 18fr tube. She uses a predigested formula high in mct fat- both of which are much easier for those with cf to digest (Peptamen Jr 1.5) and we were told she likely needs fewer enzymes with this formula than she would need for real food with the same amount of fat and calories. And...

    Enzymes & Feeding Tube

When Emily gets enzymes while sleeping we run them through her tube as Heather posted above. I experimented with a spare button, extension and syringe until I sort of felt like I knew what I was doing (at first I squirted it all over the table, etc and i wasted a whole pile of enzymes.) That way...

Warding off asthma attacks with a drink?

Caffeine acts as a bronchodilator (I am sure not as powerful of one as a medication) ...maybe iced coffee / iced tea with lots of ice are good choices as well. :-)

Not only is CF so changeable, but trying to classify it (mild to severe) doesn't take into consideration what a multi-system disease it is and how severely other parts of the body can be affected regardless of one's pulmonary function. <div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>If so many have passed...
